South Elgin Martial Art’s Master Donald Moore has developed a system of Tai Chi to benefit victims and combat the effects of Multiple Sclerosis and Diabetes. This form of gentle breathing exercise is also very effective for weight management.
The Mighty Dragons class will be a fun, hands-on, and exciting introduction to some of the basics of the martial arts for young children ages 4-5. Classes are Monday and Wednesday from 4:15 to 4:45 pm.

The course will run 10 – 11am on September 13, 20, and 27 at South Elgin Budokan, 146 Spring St. South Elgin, IL. The cost is $30 per participant ($25 for bringing a friend).
This course will focus on awareness and low-impact defense in a comfortable course taught by women themselves! Our program is designed for women of all ages and requires no previous martial arts experience.
A “drop in class” is a class where a student may simply drop in for some extra training.
Drop in classes are not mandatory and not curriculum driven. Instead, these classes will have themes that vary each week and focus on different areas of our martial arts training. Lessons will focus on concepts, strategies, drills, helpful-hints, and more. Students may pick and choose classes with themes that interest them. Students may choose a theme in an area where they may need some extra help, or they may choose a theme in which they would like to accelerate their training.
One of the best aspects of this program is that there is NO rank, age or training style requirement (except for weapons). The classes will be designed to suit any student who is interested in accentuating and accelerating his/her training.
The fee for this class is very affordable at $5 per class. We will also be offering a special for students who frequently attend the drop in classes. After training in 5 classes, the 6th class will be free!
What is Self Defense?
Jan 22
South Elgin Martial Arts is the premiere self defense school in northern Illinois. Headmaster Donald Moore would like to bring to you his philosophy of “True Self-Defense” . Headmaster Donald Moore is not only certified as a Senior Master Instructor in the self defense system of Combat Hapkido, he is also certified as a Master Instructor in Self Defense (Hosinsul) by the United State Self Defense Institute in Austin, Texas!
Self Defense is the action of “Going Home!” When we all leave our homes in the morning, we do so with the intention of returning that evening after a full day of work. We work to earn a living for our families and loved ones so they can achieve their goals and dreams. What would happen if you did not return if you were injured, or worse yet killed? How would your family carry on? What about the income you provide? What about your children?
Does this upset you? Then read on.
Self Defense is a very important aspect to our society. It is becoming increasingly important for men, women, and children to understand this very basic human need. We must protect ourselves and our loved ones. Without this simple ability, we force ourselves and our loved ones to become victims of the stronger and more aggressive members of our society.
While it is your right to defend yourself, you must be careful in your application. True self defense protects you on every level.
Would you like to learn “True Self Defense?”
As a dedicated family man, and a passionate martial arts instructor I would like to introduce you and your loved ones to the art and science of True Self Defense. Lets all get home in one piece together.

The Pilates and Cardio Kickboxing classes have been very popular, so we are bringing them to Thursday nights. As an added bonus, the evening classes are open to men as well.
Classes start Jan 8, 2009
Open house Dec 11th and Dec 18th, at 7pm
Pilates is a toning and sculpting workout which over time will guarantee tightening of core muscle groups. Pilates is one way to one way to restore and maintain firmness without a high cardio workout. The class will include free weights, tension band work (you may provide your own), with floor and stand up work.
Defensive Kickboxing is for the person who is not afraid to sweat, and really get hands on with a workout. This class is about fitness with a self defense edge. We will incorporate kicks, punches, and intense body movement, then explore how to apply them defensively.
Don’t forget that our women-only classes still run Wednesday and Friday mornings

SEMA will be incorporating a Stranger Danger class format in classes Monday 10/20 and Wednesday 10/22 during the 5pm and 6pm classes. Halloween is the perfect time of year to remind our youngsters of the importance of being aware of strangers. Parents are encouraged to attend with their child (floor seating will be available). Have a seat and watch as the SEMA instructors, in a fun and upbeat class, teach our students about who and what a stranger is and how to protect themselves from becoming a victim of attack. Students will participate in several activities, while being asked simple questions about what a stranger is, and how they would respond to a stranger. They will be given verbal and physical tools to help ward off strangers if they should ever need to.
Everyone welcome; please Contact us if you have any questions

Pilates is a toning and sculpting workout which over time will guarantee tightening of core muscle groups. As woman we struggle with softening of these muscle groups due to many factors, pregnancy, poor diet, health conditions, and lack of activity are just some of the reasons.
Fitness Kickboxing is about fitness with a self defense edge; it targets most major muscle groups, burns fat, and help you maintain a healthy weight.
