Combat Hapkido is the true science of self defense.
This class is for any student of at least 12 years of age. We generally recommend that adults take this class as opposed to one of the Taekwondo classes, as Combat Hapkido offers more practical self defense applications.
The curriculum is grounded in the vast store of knowledge of traditional martial arts, but builds on that foundation to cover weaknesses and extend the applicability of existing techniques. The key piece the foundation in for this class is the joint locking techniques of Hapkido, which offer the ability to control an aggressor. If absolutely necessary, the same technique can be come a joint break, offering situational adaptability. Students will learn how to use trapping techniques to apply these joint locks in response to punch or other strike. While it is the last place we want to be, ground fighting is taught to prepare students for all situations. Striking, kicking, blocks, stances, and safe falling techniques help provide a well rounded martial artist.
Classes are usually structured in one of two ways. One, students will practice curriculum material for their next test, with instructors available to assist and teach as needed. Two, the class will alternate between an instructor demonstrating a technique, followed by students practicing the technique. In both cases students usually work in pairs, trading roles between 'attacker' and 'defender', who performs the technique.
