Here Black Belts Learn Why and How

Are you a black belt with questions about form or techniques?

Do some things just not make sense to you?

South Elgin Martial Arts answers the questions.

Black Belt classes are held Monday and Wednesdays from 7:00 to 8:00pm. Classes are for both Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido. You must be interviewed and pass to be eligible to train in this class.

Black belt class covers a vast range of material. Students will continue to learn new, often more specialized, strikes and kicks. Advanced forms continue to be taught as well. Students will learn advanced joint locks and controlling techniques, as well as trapping techniques to broaden their applicability. Ground fighting is introduced as well. Focus on the theory and history of the marital arts also increases, included anatomical targeting techniques (‘pressure points’). Advanced students will also begin to train in an alternate style such as Kenpo, Kubodo, or Arnis.

Class structure varies from week to week. Students might have an open training class, learn an advanced form, pick apart the hidden techniques in a form, practice a variety of techniques illustrating a concept, or take notes on a lecture of martial arts history and theory.
