[Advanced class practicing the Crane Form with weapons.] [Advanced students practicing Kwon Bup.]

Advanced Taekwondo offers more advanced instruction for brown belt and up.

This class is for any of at least five years of age and light blue belt or higher in Taekwondo. However, most of the current students are currently children ages 5 to 12. Students of lower rank should take Basic Taekwondo or Intermediate Taekwondo first.

This class builds on the basic skills taught previously. Students will learn more and varied kicks, including spinning, jumping, and flying kicks. An ever increasing variety of had strikes are taught, as well as new blocking movements. Of course, students will continue to learn new stances and forms, promoting smoother movements and greater balance. Students will also engage in controlled point sparring to build reflexes, though this element does not feature as largely in our curriculum as it does in many schools.

However, it is our belief that these fundamentals alone do not make for a well-rounded martial artist. So, we add many "extras" into our curriculum to give students a balance. Students will begin to learn Hosinsul drawn from a number of other martial arts. Some of these extras include the joint locking of Hapkido, sweeps and throwing of Judo, basic trapping drills of Jeet Kun Do, and various weapons from many backgrounds. As always, we continue to teach respect and discipline throughout our classes.

Most classes start with a few minutes of sparring (practice fighting with protective gear) and then focus on the Taekwondo curriculum material, with some classes focusing on other elements of the martial arts. Students are given greater autonomy in the their training, with the higher ranking students being largely self guided, calling on an instructor for critique or new material as needed.
