Hosin Kwon-Bup – Self Defense Fist Law
I come to you with only empty hands – I have no weapons. Should I be forced to defend myself, my principles, or my honor – should it be a matter of life or death, right or wrong – then here are my weapons, my empty hands.
The Kwon Bup Creed
A technique done alone helps the student learn the movements.
These techniques are a major part of the Academy of Hosinsul curriculum that integrates many principles and moves. Typically, the techniques are not indigenous to Taekwondo or Korean martial art and are usually found in chinese martial arts like Kenpo Karate. They provide very effective and powerful self defense scenarios that give students a more realistic approach to training. Students learn fro a wide variety of attacks that range from punches and kicks to an assortment of grabs and holds. Additionally they are both challenging to learn and fun to practice.
Done with a partner, “Hi Chop and Punch” reveals it’s true nature: a realistic defense against a choke.
Two main training methods are utilized when practicing these techniques. The first method is alone, without a partner. When training in this manner, a student must focus to develop speed and proper technique. The second method is with a partner. Training in this manner helps the student with timing, distance, and power. One method may not practiced without the other, so student s must train in both methods in order to fully understand and execute the techniques.
To allow students to learn faster and with less effort and thought, every technique is named to aid the memorization of the movements. At the beginning of each technique, the student will salute and say the name of the technique and the attack that it defends against. Both students in the pair will share the role of attacker an defender and both will be responsible for memorization and completion of the technique.
